The Amazon Spanish College

Most students choose to stay in the college because it is easy to make new friends and do activities together. We try to integrate the students with the local community so they can use their Spanish all the time. All cultural activities are in Spanish as well as the evening movies showed at the College. It is also possible to stay with a host family.

The host families live in different areas of Leticia. Most of the host families live within 5-10 minutes walking distance from the College.

We usually assign the host family to each student in the week before arrival and students receive the address upon arrival in Leticia. Upon request, we can send you the details of your host family earlier, but placements are always subject to change.

If you stay at the College or with a host family, breakfast is included. There are many local restaurants near the College and a meal is very inexpensive, about US $ 3.

Yes, if you stay at the College this is possible. It is even possible to stay in one room if you are a couple with a child. For the host families we can only arrange for individual students.

It doesn't matter whether you stay at the College or with a host family, there is always a possiblity to book extra nights either at the beginning or end of your stay.You cannot make direct arrangements with the family , as all arrangements concerning accomodations are done through the College. If you want additional day (s) after finishing your course, please inform us with a couple of days notice; if not, the room or the College might be booked already for new students.

The Amazon Spanish College guest families are chosen and monitored through regular inspections and student feedback.  All the members of the family enjoy having foreign students around. Some of them might speak a little bit of English, but not all of them.

If you choose to stay with a host family and you are not happy during the first week, you can change your accommodations without a problem. If you want to go to another family or to stay at the college this can be arranged (subject to availability). For all changes in accommodation after the first week there is a change fee of 40 $.

No, you do not have to bring your own sheets and blankets, but if you stay with a family we recommend you to bring a towel, if you stay at the college it is not needed.

You do not have to, but it is a nice idea to bring something typical from your country as a gift for the host family.  The other idea is to give them a present when you say goodbye, by then, you know them and all the family members better.
